Admissions Policy

Lottery Information

We are a tuition-free, public charter school open to any Minnesota high school student who is serious about developing or practicing skills for expressing themselves creatively while participating in rigorous and expansive liberal arts and service learning programs.
For the 2019-20 school year, any student entering 9th–11th grades who qualifies for public education in the state of Minnesota, and submits a timely application can attend The Studio School. We practice an open admissions process to give all eligible students an opportunity to attend regardless of race, national origin, ethnicity, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, language proficiency, physical or mental ability, or academic or other achievement. We limit admission only by grade level and class size capacity.
The Studio School Board of Directors will assess if an admissions lottery is needed as applications are collected through May 2019.
If a lottery is not needed, those students who have applied will be contacted with an enrollment offer. If a lottery is required in order to provide equal access to all students who apply, a date and time for holding the lottery will be set for a day in June 2019. Notices about the lottery will be announced via email and published on the school’s website, and the lottery will be conducted in a public forum.
After the lottery, students who are not accepted will be placed on a waiting list, and will be offered admission as circumstances permit. The Studio School shall only give enrollment preference to a sibling of an enrolled pupil and to a foster child of that pupil's parents, and may give preference for enrolling children of the school's staff and Board of Directors before accepting other pupils by lot. Students will be placed in the lottery by grade.
