New Student Creative Assignment

  • After the Phase 2 enrollment packet is complete, all new students will be asked to complete a creative assignment prior to their first day of school.

  • Instructions and details about the creative assignment will be emailed to students/parents early in the summer immediately prior to the first day of school.

  • Students must bring their completed assignment on their first day of school.

  • In studio classes during the first week of school students present their work to their peers and instructors.

  • All students' work is also exhibited in a gallery show.

  • This essential component of the community building process will assist us in placing students into studio classes that appropriately challenge them for growth.

  • This activity also promotes presents wonderful opportunities for students to get to know one another at the start of the year.

Admissions Policy

Lottery Information

We are a tuition-free, public charter school open to any Minnesota high school student who is serious about developing or practicing skills for expressing themselves creatively while participating in rigorous and expansive liberal arts and service-learning programs.

For the 2019-20 school year, any student entering 9th grade–11th grade who qualifies for public education in the state of Minnesota, and submits a timely application can attend The Studio School. We practice an open admissions process to give all eligible students an opportunity to attend regardless of race, national origin, ethnicity, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, language proficiency, physical or mental ability, or academic or other achievement. We limit admission only by grade level and class size capacity.
The Studio School Board of Directors will assess if an admissions lottery is needed as applications are collected through May 31, 2019.
If a lottery is required to provide equal opportunity to all students who apply, the lottery will be held on June 5, 2019. Notices about the lottery will be announced via email to all applicants, published on the school’s website, and conducted in a public forum. After the lottery, students who are not accepted will be placed on a waiting list by grade, and will be offered admission as circumstances permit.

We will continue to enroll students on an ongoing basis whether a lottery is conducted on June 5, 2019 or not. Should we reach our full capacity of 100 students for the 2019-20 school year after the lottery is conducted, student applications for enrollment will continue to be collected, and students will be placed on our waiting list in the order
we receive their application.

The Studio School shall only give enrollment preference to a sibling of an enrolled pupil and to a foster child of that pupil's parents, and may give preference for enrolling children of the school's staff and Board of Directors before accepting other pupils by lot. Students will be placed in the lottery by grade.
